Accommodations

Tundra Buggy Lodge
The Tundra Lodge, located on the subarctic tundra outside the small Canadian outpost town of Churchill, Manitoba, is a unique custom rolling hotel that is placed in an area of high polar bear density at the beginning of the polar bear season that runs from October through November. The lodge has 32 rooms; each room is a single compartment similar to sleeping quarters on a train with either an upper or lower berth. With three shared toilets and two showers as well as a lounge area for viewing bears and a dining area with sliding windows for viewing and photography, the Tundra Lodge offers an authentic and personalized Arctic experience without sacrificing comfort.

Winnipeg Hotels
In Winnipeg, we stay at the historic and elegant Hotel Fort Garry located downtown. This wonderful accommodation (the best in Winnipeg!) was built in a chateau style and gives one a sense of the glory days known during the development of the Canadian west. Its atmosphere adds greatly to our stay. It has a pool and an exercise room as well as a wonderful restaurant and an antique bar area.

Extra Day in Winnipeg
October Programs
If your Extra Day in Winnipeg program occurs during the month of October, we will visit Fort Whyte Alive in addition to the guided museum and city bus tours. At this 640-acre nature reserve located just outside the city, we’ll learn about northern prairie, aspen forest and marsh environments, with a special focus on bison and birds. Joined by a local guide, we travel into the park’s Bison Prairie for a close-up encounter with these huge beasts and learn about how they have shaped Manitoba’s history. Our nature immersion continues with a guided interpretive walk through a wetland where we’ll see Canada geese, mallards and other migrating birds, followed by a visit to see endangered burrowing owls, a very charming species.

Heli-Tour Option
Get an unforgettable “birds-eye-view” of the rugged, remote Churchill countryside – from taiga, tundra and boreal forest. An optional helicopter flight over the area will provide you with a unique view of the landscape and wildlife.

Flights run across the Hudson Bay shoreline out to the famous Cape Churchill where the largest males tend to congregate waiting for the ice to freeze. In addition to polar bears, you may also watch caribou, seals and a variety of other wildlife. Tour lengths run 60-minutes and originate from town.

Cregor Adventures will be happy to provide you with details on the costs of helicopter “safaris,” the length of the trips and what you are likely to see on your visit. Please contact our office for details.
