overview-Tundra Lodge

Sample Itinerary

The unique location of the Tundra Lodge, affords lodge guests the best possible wildlife encounters in the region. In addition to polar bears, we may see caribou, Arctic fox, Arctic hare, ptarmigan, and snowy owls. At the end of each exhilarating day, we retire to our cozy accommodations for dinner and presentations. In the light cast by our lodge across the frozen tundra, we look for the illuminated eyes of animals. And if we are fortunate to have a clear night, the Northland’s spectacular natural light show may appear as darkness descends—Churchill has some of the world’s most concentrated aurora borealis activity.

Day 6: Churchill / Winnipeg
This morning we board our Polar Rover, leaving the coastline of Hudson Bay in the distance as we make our way back to Churchill. Depending on flight schedules, we may have time for some last-minute exploration of this subarctic frontier community, originally a Northwest Company fur-trading post, with a chance to pick up native handicrafts and souvenirs or take part in an optional helicopter tour over the tundra. We enjoy a farewell lunch together in Churchill before our return flight to Winnipeg.

Day 7: Winnipeg / Home
After breakfast, we transfer to the airport for flights home.

Tundra Buggy Lodge
The Tundra Lodge, located on the subarctic tundra outside the small Canadian outpost town of Churchill, Manitoba, is a unique custom rolling hotel that is placed in an area of high polar bear density at the beginning of the polar bear season that runs from October through November. The lodge has 32 rooms; each room is a single compartment similar to sleeping quarters on a train with either an upper or lower berth. With three shared toilets and two showers as well as a lounge area for viewing bears and a dining area with sliding windows for viewing and photography, the Tundra Lodge offers an authentic and personalized Arctic experience without sacrificing comfort.

Winnipeg Hotels
In Winnipeg, we stay at the historic and elegant Hotel Fort Garry located downtown. This wonderful accommodation (the best in Winnipeg!) was built in a chateau style and gives one a sense of the glory days known during the development of the Canadian west. Its atmosphere adds greatly to our stay. It has a pool and an exercise room as well as a wonderful restaurant and an antique bar area.

Postcards from Past Adventurers

Dear Frank,

I want to THANK YOU very much for a super super tour.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  We had 18 and were the first tour on the Buggy.  It was interesting and I loved every minute of it.

I wonder if you would be able to convey, for me, my deepest and heartfelt thanks to the following:
Emma – Ralph – Toby and especially our super Guide Neil Mundy (I think that is his surname – not sure though!). They were so lovely and made me (and I am sure Russell) feel so at home with their love and support. If you could do this for me please so that the above individuals will read this message – I would be ever so grateful.

Thank you once again for this wonderful opportunity to see these beautiful creatures – we do have an Awesome God!
