Peru and Machu Picchu

Peru is an inviting, friendly and greatly diversified land offering you the wondrous ruins of the Inca Empire to the natural beauty of the Andes and Lake Titicaca to the great Amazon Rain Forest.

It is an ideal destination for our guests who would like to place their emphasis on knowing one aspect of the country, as well as for those who would like to take the “Grand Tour” and visit all parts.

Sacred Valley of the Incas

The most popular destination in Peru is the Sacred Valley of the Incas 26 miles long from Pisaq to Ollantaytambo.

The most famous site is, of course, Machu Picchu.  A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Machu Picchu was built in the middle 1400’s as a country retreat for the Inca nobility, and was inhabited until the Spanish Conquest of Peru in 1552.

In his poem,  The Heights of Machu Picchu, famous Chilean poet Pablo Neruda describes the famous citadel.

Machu Picchu is a trip to the serenity of the soul, to eternal fusion with the cosmos, there we feel our own fragility.  It is one of the greatest marvels of South America.  A resting place of butterflies at the epicenter of the great circle of life.  Another miracle.”

When visiting Machu Picchu, we recommend that you stay at least one night at Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of the Citadel.  Our intimate hotel is in a private mountainside refuge deep in the lush Andean Cloud Forest.  Its grounds include miles of trails winding past waterfalls and through the forest.  And, its gardens include a dazzling array of 372 native orchid species, 172 bird species, 11 species of butterflies, and other natural wonders.
