Experience the Natural Beauty of the Amazon

Lush, verdant and unforgettable, the Amazon Rainforest is truly one of the western hemisphere’s great natural wonders. Venerated for hundreds of years by South America’s indigenous peoples, the Amazon continues to teem with both life and mystery. With custom Amazon lodges and authentic riverboat trips by Cregor Adventures, you can experience this wondrous land in complete comfort as you travel deep into the rainforest.

With either experience, you will have the opportunity to enjoy daily hikes, as well as small riverboat excursions, all with top quality, English speaking native guides.

During your custom Amazon trip, you’ll see an incredible array of flora and fauna up close and personal, including the famous fresh water pink river dolphin. Birders will be entranced as they enjoy colorful toucans, macaws and parrots, as well as dozens of species not seen anywhere else in the world. From graceful stingrays, river otters and giant caiman below you to the tiniest leaf cutter ants and tree frogs, the Amazon Rainforest is your chance to see the incredible natural diversity firsthand.

Amazon Jungle Tours and Lodges

Cregor Adventures’ jungle lodge tours of the Amazon, located in Peru and Ecuador, give you the flexibility of designing a trip that meets your schedule. Our operators will take you deep into the jungle, where you’ll stay at a comfortable lodge while taking shorter trips to see wildlife, birds or other Amazonian highlights — itineraries are available that anyone, of any age, will enjoy.

Amazon River Cruise Packages

Our small group Amazon River cruises leave from either Iquitos, Peru or Manaus, Brazil. Three, four, seven and eight day trips are available, each of which will take you into the rainforest through various untouched Amazon tributaries. You will see breathtaking orchids in their natural habitat as well as several types of native forests which speak to the region’s incredible biodiversity. On our Brazil tour, you’ll see the famous “meeting of the waters” where the black waters of the Rio Negro converges with the white waters of the Amazon.

The Amazon Rainforest is changing right before our eyes. At Cregor Adventures, we practice sustainable tourism and work exclusively with local operators who respect the rainforest and the culture of the indigenous people who inhabit it.

Experiential Travel That Takes You Further

At Cregor Adventures, we don’t believe adventure travel should mean sacrificing luxury. Our Amazon rainforest custom tours let you select the type of comfort you’d like to travel in, while still going further into the rainforest than most other tour operators for a truly authentic experience. We provide cruises and jungle lodge tours, both of which offer an excellent opportunity to see the primeval depths of the Amazon. Our local guides are intimately familiar with the area and know the off-the-beaten path spots where you can still catch a glimpse of the rainforest as it was thousands of years ago.

Why the Amazon? Why Now?

You may have heard, the Amazon Rainforest is disappearing. We are losing Earth’s greatest biological treasures just as we are beginning to appreciate their true value. Rainforests once covered 14% of the earth’s land surface; now they cover a mere 6% and experts estimate that the last remaining rainforests could be gone in less than 40 years.

Did You Know:
  • The Amazonian Rainforest covers over a billion acres, encompassing areas in Brazil, Venezuela, Columbia and the Eastern Andean region of Ecuador and Peru. If Amazonia were a country, it would be the ninth largest in the world.
  • The Amazon Rainforest has been described as the “Lungs of our Planet” because it provides the essential environmental world service of continuously recyling carbon dioxide into oxygen. More than 20 percent of the world oxygen is produced in the Amazon Rainforest.
  • More than half of the world’s estimated 10 million species of plants, animals and insects live in the tropical rainforests. One-fifth of the world’s fresh water is in the Amazon Basin.
  • Currently, 121 prescription drugs currently sold worldwide come from plant-derived sources. And while 25% of Western pharmaceuticals are derived from rainforest ingredients, less than 1% of these tropical trees and plants have been tested by scientists.
  • The U.S. National Cancer Institute has identified 3000 plants that are active against cancer cells. 70% of these plants are found in the rainforest. Twenty-five percent of the active ingredients in today’s cancer-fighting drugs come from organisms found only in the rainforest.

A Letter from Frank…

All of the information in this section is very important and offers a great reason to visit the rainforest. In addition, to me, the land also simply offers a wonderful holiday for people of all ages.

We delight in waking up right before sunrise to hear the almost deafening calls of the Howler Monkeys (Peggy thinks they sound like espresso machines!)

The Rainforest continues to awaken with the sounds of birds singing “good morning.”

In the Jungle Lodges, we climb towers to platforms and bridges that take us to the top of the canopy. It is an indescribable feeling to actually look down on the dense forest.

On the Riverboat cruises, we take early morning “panga” rides, enjoying the beauty of the morning. What a delightful way of starting the morning, before returning to a breakfast full of local fruits, breads, along with normal breakfast fare.

In the evening, we take another “panga” ride to enjoy the sunsets, seen only in the rainforest and then at dark to see the red mysterious eyes of a caiman.

Perhaps one of the most memorable aspects of the trip is the enormity of the rainforest and the huge variety of different species, some of which never leave the safety of their own small island in the vast archipelago.

The rainforest is truly a destination unlike any other in the entire world.

I invite you to enjoy it, just as we have.
